"Spring scarce had greener fields to show than these
Of mid September; through the still warm noon
The rivulets ripple forth a gladder tune
Than ever in the summer; from the trees
Dusk-green, and murmuring inward melodies,
No leaf drops yet; only our evenings swoon
In pallid skies more suddenly, and the moon
Finds motionless white mists out on the leas."
- Edward Dowden, In September
"Smoke hangs like haze over harvested fields,
The gold of stubble, the brown of turned earth
And you walk under the red light of fall
The scent of fallen apples, the dust of threshed grain
The sharp, gentle chill of fall.
Here as we move into the shadows of autumn
The night that brings the morning of spring
Come to us, Lord of Harvest
Teach us to be thankful for the gifts you bring us ..."

Good morning, Sharon -
What a wonderful post today! I've thought of this Scripture verse so much as I drive around the Willamette Valley and see the hay and wheat harvest. Your blog is so beautiful - I love the look. Have a wonderful Lord's Day today! ~Adrienne~
Good Morning Adrienne!
Thank you so much for your kind words about my blog as well as this post.I cannot be creative with our home for various reasons so this is where I can run amok creatively.Big grin.I just love this time of year in the Willamette Valley.Especially in Stayton where we used to live. The beauty of this season here just really blesses and inspires me.I love seeing the rolls and bales of harvested hay,the changing leaves, the golden glow on everything...Hugs~Sharon
Fall ... my favorite season of all. How I long for the cooling of these heated days we endure even this late into the year. Soon I hope to grab a sweater and shiver in the chill breeze of an evening. For now I am dancing with delight to see the first red leaf on my virginia creeper. Aha! Fall has not forgotten us and is surely on it's way.
Lovely artwork, poetry, and Scripture. A blessed place to find peace and pleasure on this Day of Rest.
Debbie,my friend. Thanks so much for stopping by and blessing with your words.Having lived the first 30 years of my life in Sacramento I can completely understand.I too longed for Autumn's chill after those long, hot summers of my youth. You know,a younger sister and I used to"escape"to Grass Valley and Nevada City to escape the heat and pace down in"the valley"and we had such fun there.Thank you once again for stopping by and blessing with your words.~Sharon
