Some Things Never Change

Some things never change. They really don't.They seem to span the generations.Passed down from Mother to daughter or Father to son. They just never seem to lie dusty and forgotten, tucked away in an attic somewhere. And forget about them ever becoming obsolete. They refuse to die it seems.I saw evidence of this recently as we watched our granddaughter Hope Ann after school one day.She came home to us as her Mom was at work. She was upset. Her face registered sheer mortification. The source of her distress? It was a song.A simple little song.Words set to music. And you'll never guess what song it was!?It was the"kissing song."You know the song from elementary school,I'm sure.I was surprised it was still around myself. And Hope was upset because someone had put her name in it.And horror of horrors it was in conjunction with her friend Shane's name. Her"recently declared"boyfriend.Love of her 7 year old life.Friend, defender and rescuer Shane. He,with the blond head and adorable grin.He who is shorter than Hope by several inches and yet above her in age and grade by a couple of years. They were both in a song about k-i-s-s-i-n-g.Hope and Shane sittin' in a tree k-i-s-s-i-n-g,first comes love, then comes marriage... this had ruined her day as well as her mood. When asked why this distessed her so much she boldly proclaimed that she hated Shane. That he was not her friend, much less her boyfriend. We do not know the reason or source for this change of heart. We only know it happened. And it happened quickly.Ah,some things never change.Like the fickle hearts of 7 year old girls.I am really glad God is not that way.Loving us one minute.Hating us the next. His love for His creation, and that includes us,changes not.God Himself boldly declares in Malachi 3:6"For I am the Lord,I do not change;therefore you are not consumed,O sons of Jacob."Yes,it's so good to know that some things never change.
Blessings,Sharon

Hi Sharon -
Perhaps her little heart was not fickle. Maybe she discovered reasons he wasn't the one she wanted to like. Or, maybe she was venting because the song hurt and embarrassed her in front of him. My daughter did something similar when she was 7 and embarrassed about a cute little boy she was really truly fond of. Denial on the outside but attraction on the inside!

Thank you for stopping by my blog and for leaving your sweet comments. I have not forgotten that you tagged me recently. I just have not been able to sit down and think up six things that I have not shared. Soon - it will happen soon.

I do not know her reasons but now she likes him once again.LOL That's what I meant by fickle.LOL She is as changeable sometimes as our weather here in Salem. My observations are coming from one who never had children of her own and who did not get to raise her husband's kids.Perhaps I should have clarified myself a bit better in my post???Don't worry about the meme if you do not have the time for it.I know about time issues here.Blessings abundant from Salem~Sharon

I remember the k-i-s-s-i-n-g song ans remember the mortification when the other kids were singing it about you...and I also remember the fickleness of having a "boy" friend and hating him the next...and liking him again on the third day...
you pegged it correctly..it is the fickleness of childhood...
loved your comparison of the way God never changes his mind or feelings for us...

loved this post.
Blessings,
Mimi

Hello Mimi:
Thanks for stopping by and commenting. How well I recall this song too.I do not recall liking boys so much as a kid.I was not a typical little girl I guess. LOL Not a tomboy and not a girly girl like our Hope.I was a bookworm. And if I did like a boy no one ever knew!!!Hope is so typical of many of the little girls I grew up around.Like my younger sisters.Smile.And I am glad that God is never fickle for His love for us is everlasting.Even when disciplined by His hand His heart always beats love for us.
Blessings~Sharon

I don't know if you meant this as such but this was a wonderfully amusing and well written post. Your point of being ever so glad that our heavenly Father is not as fickle as we are, is well taken. I've often misjudged God as limited and shallow as myself. Then I'm reminded that His mercies are new every morning and I am sooooo very glad. I'm sorry for Hope's struggle but it's reassuring that all things change. Tomorrow they'll be singing the song about someone else and she'll be long forgotten. Maybe the pain of it will come as a reminder to her how not to be cruel to others when someone else is the receiver of teasing. She may very well come to their aid when she sees the same injustice against another. Interesting how important growth and inward beauty can often come through pain and sorrow even for children.

God bless you!

Sparrow!
Thanks for stopping by and leaving such kind, thought provoking comments. It was an amusing incident and a soon forgotten one by Hope.I very soon saw the comparison between Hope's fickleness and God's unchanging feelings for His creation and knew I must write about it.Blessings~Sharon

I'm sure your little one was embarrassed. I remember being mortified when they put my name in that song and the boy who was to later become my first husband. Our love blossomed from the time we were kids, but unfortunately he died after a few years of marriage.

Take care and give your little one a big hug. She needs one.

Blessings,
Mary

Hi Sharon...I saw your comment on Mary's Writing Nook and thought I'd stop by to meet you. I'm glad I did. This was more or less 'poetry in motion' for me. Yes, how I remember those words, and how I remember my first love and how proud I was that kids of my age, my peers the age of not yet double digits, would sing this song around us at recess. Oh what memories.

Glad I stopped by. Hope your Friday is a blessed one, and your weekend peaceful and serene.
