Overwhelmed Overload

Hear my cry ,O God:
Attend to my prayer.
From the end of the earth I will
cry to You.
When my heart is overwhelmed;
Lead me to the rock that is
higher than I.
~Psalm 61:1-2~

A request from a senior neighbor made me crabby.I did not want to return her phone call which I knew was a request for assistance of some kind.Word from a friend about news of her husband's return of prostate cancer made me cry.A call from a family member found me muttering under my breath "leave us alone" from another room I assumed they too were wanting something from us..My flesh,my humanity,was all too apparent in the last few days.I was on emotional overload.Overwhelmed by life.Inundated by a plethora of prayer needs for people needing healing had left me with a broken heart for these suffering souls.Add to that the recent heatwave and subsequent loss of sleep and you have prime breeding ground for emotional and physical exhaustion.I felt I had not a thing left to give.Nothing.Empty.Out of gas.And in the midst of all this a reminder to go the Rock that is higher than I for refreshing.For healing.Run to Jesus with my all too human frame.Run to Him for healing and renewal.Go to Him for rest.For peace.And if needed,escape for a day.Which is what we hope to do tomorrow.We hope to run to the coast for the day.To escape the stress and monotony of a life lived on a fixed income which carries with it it's own monthly challenges and stresses.We hope to stare at the water and let His waves have their healing and restorative way in us.We hope to have a cheap meal somewhere and just enjoy each other and His creation with out a jangling phone or cell phone!Our way of running to the Rock that is higher and bigger and more powerful than we could ever imagine.A way to let my overwhelmed and overloaded heart catch a break and perhaps heal a little.
God bless all~Sharon:-)

Sharon, I totally get exactly what you are talking about. I have been there myself recently. I was given Jeremiah 17 to chew on. You know the passage about letting our roots go deep so that when drought comes we can be strong and keep on producing fruit. Well it is in the tough times that my roots learn how to go deep. I hope your time away enjoying God's creation waters your soul and helps your roots go a little deeper into his love and care. Hugs to you

Nothing soothes my soul like the immense ocean. God's resume of majesty lies all around us every day, but there is something bigger about the ocean. I thought my heart would break when God called us away from the coast to live in this cleft of the Sierras . . . but I was wrong! I still long to inhale the tang of the sea, but I have found the same BIG beauty and soul-healing moments right here in my mountain home. God is good.

May you be blessed abundantly on your getaway day. : D
